UK Company Data campus licence: who can use it and what they can do

Updated By
Short answerThe campus licence covers all students, staff, distance learners, attached visiting researchers and walk-in users on library computers, for non-commercial teaching, dissertations, research and text and data mining. Results may be published with attribution; bulk extracts may not be resold or redistributed commercially. This page is a summary: the order form and licence agreement prevail.

About this summary

This page summarises the UK Company Data campus licence in plain English so that librarians, academics and procurement teams can check quickly whether it fits. It is not the licence itself. If anything here differs from the signed order form or the licence agreement, the order form and the licence agreement prevail.

The licensor is Global Mindset Marketing Limited, company number 15738438, Bartle House, 9 Oxford Court, Manchester M2 3WQ. Questions about the terms: info@globalmindsetmarketing.co.uk.

Price and term

The campus licence costs GBP 2,400 plus VAT per year, with unlimited students and staff. For the first partner institutions the price is fixed for two years. It is invoiced annually against your purchase order. Procurement details are on the supplier information page.

Access is by IP address and EZproxy, so the library controls who reaches the service in the same way as for its other e-resources. See access setup.

Permitted uses

Authorised users may use the service for non-commercial purposes, including:

  • Teaching: in lectures, seminars, workshops and assessed coursework.
  • Dissertations and theses: at any level.
  • Research: academic, non-commercial research by staff and students.
  • Text and data mining: across the data, through the dataset builder, CSV exports or the API keys issued for a module.

Within those purposes, users can export datasets of up to 50,000 rows per query and view the full financial history of any company.

Publishing results

Results, figures, tables and reproducible datasets may be published, for example in a thesis, journal article, working paper or a data repository that accompanies a paper. Please use this attribution:

The as_of parameter lets anyone rebuild a published dataset exactly as it stood on a given date. See how to cite a dataset.

What is not permitted

  • Resale of the data or of exports.
  • Commercial redistribution of bulk extracts, for example loading exports into a commercial product or passing them to a company for its own use.
  • Use by people outside the authorised user groups above, including alumni through live access.

The underlying Companies House data is published under the Open Government Licence. The restriction applies to our processed bulk extracts, not to the public source data itself.

Alumni

When students graduate they lose live access. They keep any datasets they downloaded while they were students.

When the licence ends

Datasets downloaded during the licence stay with the institution and can still be used for the permitted purposes, so a dissertation or a published paper is not affected by a later decision not to renew. Live access, the dataset builder limits and the usage report stop at the end of the term.

Service continuity

If the service ever closes, we give 90 days notice, a full export of the institution's saved datasets and a final data snapshot. The source data is Companies House data under the Open Government Licence, so it can be re-used after closure.

What the licence does not include

  • Licences for AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT. Our MCP server is optional and works with assistants the institution already licenses.
  • Data we do not hold: companies outside the UK, ownership trees, credit scores, M&A, director networks, PSC data and historical SIC codes. See coverage and limitations.
