Questions

Is this a replacement for FAME or Orbis?

Not for everything. We cover UK companies only, with no ownership trees, credit scores or M&A. For teaching balance sheet analysis, building SME datasets for dissertations and data science projects on a real company panel, it does the job for the whole university at a fraction of the cost.

Do students need to register?

No. Access works by your campus IP ranges and your EZproxy server, the same way most library databases work. Students simply open the site from campus or through the library link.

How complete is the profit and loss data?

Honestly: thin. Small and micro companies do not have to publish a profit and loss account, so turnover appears in about 2% of filings and profit after tax in about 4%, mostly medium and large companies. Balance sheet lines are widely available: net assets and employees in about 85% of filings.

Can a dissertation dataset be reproduced later?

Yes. Every dataset link can carry an as_of date, which rebuilds the data from filings published up to that day. Each row links to the original filing at Companies House.

What happens if we stop subscribing?

Datasets you downloaded stay with you. Live access stops at the end of the licence year.
