Build a UK company dataset
Pick an industry, a place and the years. Get one row per company and accounting period, straight from filed accounts, with a link to each source filing. Blank cells mean not filed, never zero.
Without a licence you see 25 rows and can download 100. Universities get 50,000 rows per query with a campus licence; API users see plans.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the digital (iXBRL) accounts companies file at Companies House, read with their reporting dates. When a company files amended accounts, the later filing replaces the original. Values above £100bn are treated as parsing errors and removed.
Why is turnover often empty?
Small and micro companies may file a balance sheet only. Use "Only rows where this was filed" with Turnover to keep companies that published it, typically medium and large ones.
Can I use it in a dissertation?
Yes. Cite the source as "Contains Companies House data, Open Government Licence v3.0; processed by UK Company Data", with the citation link above and the snapshot date.
API
The same query works at /v1/dataset (JSON) and /v1/dataset.csv, with an API key or from a licensed campus. See API docs.
